3-strong Ice Carving Team have claimed Second
Prize at the International Snow Statue Contest
at Japans 56th Sapporo Snow Festival, held
7 13 February 2005.
The Hong Kong Ice Carving team has
participated in the International Snow Statue Contest
since the 1970s. The team representing Hong Kong
for this years 56th Sapporo Snow Festival
comprised of Hung Siu-kay of the Hong Kong Ice Carving
Association, Perry Yuen, President of the Hong Kong
Chefs Association and Tam Wai-lun, the Kitchen Artist
of InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong.
Starting with just a block of ice
3.5 metres high (3m wide and with a depth of 3m),
armed with shovels, buckets, rubber gloves and chisels,
a total of 16 teams competed Australia, Peoples
Republic of China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Guam,
Hong Kong, Indonesia, Lithuania, Malaysia, New Zealand,
Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, USA and Japan.
Grand Champion of the Snow Statue
Contest was won by Canada, with the Hong Kong team
following closely with their creation Fighting
Against the Devil a courageous hero
wages battle against the ruthless devil after witnessing
the oppression of the people. He vanquishes the
fiend, bringing peace and joy to the populace.
