Following the success of last September's Bangkok Film Festival, the Tourism Authority of Thailand along with co-hosts, The Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand will be launching Bangkok's 1st annual World Comedy Film Festival. Headed by Film Festival Director Jarreuk Kalajareuk and Managing Director Tyler Panichapakdee, the festival aims to bring together 50 international comedies. The festival will be held from 10-16 June 2009 at cinemas at SFX World Cinema Central World and Paragon Cineplex.
"We want to establish Thailand as a major comedy hub," said Tyler Panichpakdee, Festival Managing Director. "Although the language may not be in English, Thailand's smiles and humour have been understood worldwide in films and advertisements and have won plenty of global awards for creativity. We want to highlight the culture and history of Thai comedy as well." The slogan for this year's event is: "A day without laughter is a day wasted" a famous quote from comedy legend Charlie Chaplin.
The opening ceremony will be held on the June 10, 2009 at Infinity Hall 5th floor, Paragon Shopping Centre, Paragon Cineplex. The ceremony will welcome various VIPs that have flown in worldwide with Thai traditional dancing and music and with Stand Up Comedy from top Thai comedians.
The Festival will end with a Gala Night at SFX World Cinema, Central World with an awards presentation to the best comedy films featured in the Festival from each country represented. Various sponsors of the festival will also be presented with appreciation at this event.
