Aquapark on Phuket

Think of Phuket and images of large hotels, luxurious multi-million baht condominiums and exotic villas with mind-boggling exclusive features for the rich come to mind.

For those who can spend the big bucks, there's no dirth of things to do on the island.

For the average tourist, however, outside the beaches and the malls, there's not much on offer. Entertainment activities, especially those for families with children, are woefully lacking.

Well, finally, here's a project everyone on Phuket, residents and tourists will enjoy...and what's more, you don't have to be a multi-millionaire to have access to it!

To be located in Kathu, built on 40 rai, with an investment of 400 million Thai baht, Phuket's first Aquapark is all set to throw its watery slides and other delights open to the public next year, providing a great new entertainment option for all tourists coming to Phuket.

K.Prawich (Bobby) Chalorthammanit, Thai investor in the Aquapark project told the Phuket Post, “Aquapark is a joint venture with investment from Thai and Hungarian companies. The idea behind the concept is to build a wonderful place to support and entertain the huge number of tourists that come to Phuket.

“Each year many tourists around the world choose to visit Phuket, and although Phuket has many types of hotels, the primary entertainment activities available on the island are very limited. There are simply not enough activities for the tourists to enjoy.

“So we are pleased to present 'Aquapark', a brand new entertainment and relaxation spot on Phuket, featuring a wealth of activities. Not only will there be aqua-entertainment galore, but also adventure activities like cliff-climbing arenas, with 20 metres of climbing terrain, fitted with a variety of difficulty levels, so that everyone can participate. The aquapark will also sport a beach-volleyball court.”

Bobby believes that although the waterpark concept comes to Phuket much later than in Malaysia and Vietnam, this may actually be advantageous, as the developers of the project have been able to choose the the very latest designs of slides and all other water-games equipment, which will make Phuket's park the most modern amongst its rivals in neighbouring countries.

“We're going to have many kinds of pools, such as a childrens' pool, an adventure pool, a relaxation pool, beach pool, wave pool and even a waterway that will take a boat along a 1 kilometre route.”

50% of the space at the Aquapark has been allocated for water activities and the other 50% for restaurants, shops, massage parlours, relaxation areas and parking space, making this a comprehensive entertainment area in itself.

There will be water bars in Caribbean style, Thai restaurants and fast food joints for the convenience of the guests.

“Before we decided to construct 'Aquapark', we spent a year researching the environmental issues behind this project, and also for its impact on the tourist industry and locals on the island.

“Another main priority was the quality of the water that will be used in the park, we have passed the the test of the Public health department, and after the construction is completed, we will check the water quality again, to ensure safety.” says Bobby.

“We will have stringent measures for security in the park premises, we plan to ensure our lifeguards are trained in professional courses before operating in the Aquapark, because the safety of the tourists and locals that will visit the park is of utmost importance to us,” he continues, “safety comes first, and so we will have a medical centre in the centre of water activities area to provide emergency support if any accidents happen.

“Also, for maintenance of the park, all sliders and equipment will be open for 9 months and closed for 3 months to undergo maintenance work, ensuring that the equipment on the park is always maintained to the highest standard. This will also help us to upgrade to more modern equipment whenever necessary.”

So by the mid 2008, Aquapark will be poised to open as the first such waterpark in Thailand, geared to accommodate and soak up to 2,000 visitors everyday.
